5 Family-Friendly Orchards in Greater Boston

One of my family’s favorite fall activities has always been applepicking. Now that the weather is getting cooler, the leaves are starting to turn and the crisp apples are in their prime, it’s a perfect time to make your family trip to a local orchard. I’ve done a bit of research and compiled the following well-loved family-friendly orchards in the area to share with you:

1. Honey Pot Hill Orchards, Stow, MA www.honeypothill.com
This place is great because in addition to the huge pick-your-own orchard and $1 hayrides, farm animals, and a hedge maze.

2. Russel Orchards, Ipswich, MA http://www.russellorchardsma.com/
In addition to being fabulously located down the road from Crane Beach and having all the standards of a great New England orchard, this Russel’s offers live music every Saturday from 12:30-3:30 as part of their Fall Music Series and wine tastings from their fruit winery.

3. Smolak Farms, North Andover, MA http://www.smolakfarms.com/
Kids of all ages will love Smolak Farms. They’ve got everything from hay and pyramid mazes, batting cages, and a bounce house, to duck races, music, and carmel apple-making. And on October 16 and 23 photographer Reba Saldanha will be there for a day of fall family pictures.

4. Belkin Family Lookout Farm, Natick, MA http://www.lookoutfarm.com/
Lookout farm is one of the oldest in the country and is “dedicated to being the #1 healthy, outdoor, family fun destination in the Boston and metrowest area.” The petting zoo, burlap maze and train rides are kid favorites, as is Mike the Music Man, who will be playing on October 2 and 3 at 12:00, 1:00 and 2:00.

5. Old Frog Pond Farm, Harvard, MA http://www.oldfrogpondfarm.com
Old Frog Pond Farm’s apples are certified by Baystate Organic Certifier, providing a feel-good and healthy option when it comes to enjoying one of Massachusetts’ most prized fruits. You family will enjoy the sculpture exhibit too, which is open on weekends from 1-5.

Enjoy your family applepicking experience and don’t forget to bring your camera along!! You will adore photos of your family in natural light against the vibrant backdrop of the red and green apple tree hues and blue sky.
