A (Very Nice) Family Phase

Our family seems to have started a new phase–we are on quite a streak of playing board games at my house. I can’t even remember a time when my daughter actually chose–and enjoyed–a board game over a video or  an electronic game. Her usual requests for entertainment are to play with her iPod Touch, Nintendo ds or with the WII gaming system. For the last few weeks, however, she comes home from school, throws her backpack down and asks if I want to play a board game with her. Of course I oblige and honestly, these have been the best times. During the 30 minutes it takes to play a game, it’s pure bonding. We talk and laugh. Even my 15-year-old has expressed an interest in joining us!  “The Game of Life” is definitely the favorite at the moment but we’ve also really enjoyed the following games as a family:

  • Game of Life
  • Connect Four
  • Mastermind Junior
  • Apples to Apples
  • Guess Who (the newest version)
  • Monopoly (original)
  • The Allowance Game
  • Uno
  • Battleship
  • Perfection
  • Blokus
  • Clue
  • Chess/Checkers

I highly recommend dusting off those games in the closet instead of waiting for a rainy day–you won’t regret it!
